Cell Phone Policy

To support school environments in which students can fully engage with their classmates, their teachers, and instruction, ALL students at Oyler School are to follow the Cincinnati Public Schools District Cell Phone Policy in the Student Code of Conduct and Oyler School’s Cell Phone Use Policy.  Oyler School is a phone-free space.

Research shows that students' use of cell phones in schools has negative effects on student performance and mental health. Cell phones distract students from classroom instruction, resulting in smaller learning gains and lower test scores. Increased cell phone use has led to higher levels of depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders in children.

Daily Procedure:

Cell phones will be collected upon arrival for students in grades K-6.  Students in grades 7-12 will utilize their Yondr pouches.

  • All 7th - 12th grade students in possession of a phone or smart watch will utilize the Yondr pouches supplied to them.  Students will place their device/s into their Yondr pouch upon the security check each morning.  Each phone should be powered off prior to being placed in the Yondr pouch.
  • Students in Grades 7 - 12 will be required to bring their pouch to and from school

If a pouch is lost or broken, the student will be required to turn their phone into security at the check at arrival.  The phone will be locked and stored in the main office for the duration of the day.  The phone may be retrieved at dismissal on the same day.

If cell phones are out or in use, staff will follow the procedure below. Refusal will result in disciplinary action in alignment with the District Code of Conduct.

In the event of a family emergency, please call the Oyler School Main Office line at 513-363-4100, stating the need to speak with your child due to an emergency.
