CPS Athletics Starts Futsal Soccer Program

January 16, 2018

CPS Athletics has partnered with Kings Hammer and FC Cincinnati to provide an after-school futsal program in 8 elementary schools across the district.

Cincinnati Public Schools has teamed up with FC Cincinnati and Kings Hammer Academy to kick off an eight-week after-school futsal pilot program at eight schools.

Over 300 students in grades K-6 will not only improve their soccer skills through the game, which is played with a weighted soccer ball on a traditional gym floor, but will also learn healthy habits and character building. Each week, the staff will share a character trait, anti-bullying message, and a healthy nutritional message to all participating students. The schools participating in this pilot program are Academy of World Languages, Bond Hill Academy, Cheviot School, Covedale School, Oyler School, Pleasant Hill Academy, Pleasant Ridge Montessori, and Winton Hills Academy.

“The game of soccer has exploded in Cincinnati, and this program provides a unique opportunity for multiple organizations to work together to create a positive experience for CPS elementary students,” said Joshua Hardin, Athletics Manager for Cincinnati Public Schools.

As part of the program, FC Cincinnati players and coaches will make appearances at the pilot program schools, giving the students the opportunity to learn directly from professional soccer players. Participants will also receive a free membership in the FC Cincinnati Kids Club, presented by UDF.
